I have always found difficulties with finding time to cook during my free time. As a result, I chose to do one of my CAS activities about cooking in order to create a need for me to do it. The point of this activity is to help me develop my cooking skills for college, while at the same time creating a cooking blog for people that may need support in simple and tasty cooking recipes.
My strength in cooking is that I am aware of what a healthy diet should look like thanks to my multiple nutrition lectures in my old basketball clubs, this has given me a good idea of what food is good for a healthy lifestyle. However, if I could improve anything in my cooking it would be my general dedication towards the activity. This is because this year due to a large amount of school work that I've been having to take home I have been lacking the time to cook and thus my cooking blog is lacking.
Creating a cooking blog offers constant challenges with cooking meals I have never done before. This is a challenge because in order to prefer such a dish preliminary research about the ingredients has to be made such as that about their availability at this time of the year. Furthermore, certain dishes require more skill than others thus meaning that with the cooking of each meal new skills have to be learned which offers a challenge to me.
My role I this activity is to cook as often as possible and create a cooking blog about the food I create. To prepare for my cooking sessions I've been having to do preliminary research about the ingredients and then go shopping for them. While undertaking the cooking I would tell my family to not come into the kitchen for some time in order to avoid any interference with the videos if I decided to do one for that dish. The biggest setback I have had in this activity is that I have had no time to almost anything during the first semester, thus forcing me to undertake this CAS activity much more often in the second semester taking away from my time I have to study. I have overcome this by arranging specific days on which I cook on that do not interfere with my rugby practice schedule.
The most difficult commitment about this activity is the time commitment that I had to make to research and go shopping for the ingredients. I managed to deal with it by trying to manage my time more efficiently and limiting the time I spend on leisure activities such as walking TV shows or spending time with my friends.
My cooking blog offers simple and easy recipes that students in college can utilize if they wish to create something that is both tasty and easy to make. Furthermore, it has allowed me to develop my skills in cooking and thus has prepared me for living away from my parents in college.
