Once one of favourite activity outside of school basketball has gifted me with athletic and social skills many people could only dream of. I practice extensively throughout the week sacrificing my body for the good of the club. Nevertheless, I play on for the hopes and dreams of the Eintracht basketball fans rest in my hands.
I have been playing basketball for almost half my life. I think that as an inside player I was a good finisher around the basket and a good teammate. I found that and group and guys and I were able to increase to team chemistry both on and off the court. However, if I were to improve on something in my basketball skills I would definitely improve my shooting. I have always struggled with my shooting due to being a big man and lacking game exposure. I wish to improve it because an outside shot would allow me to create more space on the court allowing me and my teammates to score points more easily.
Throughout my career in basketball, I have never played on such a higher level in the U19 championship for Germany. The biggest struggle or challenge for me in this league is my lack of a shot as this makes me ineffective outside the arc. However, I have always attempted to improve my shot and yet somehow I never managed to get it right thus making my shot development process yet another challenge in my basketball career.
My role in this activity to be a competitor on the basketball court and to be a good teammate to my team. To prepare for games I always begin thinking about them before they start in order to get into the appropriate mindset before they begin and I am sent to the basketball court. Throughout this season we have experienced many setbacks in our basketball team firstly, a number of our players got injured, secondly, another one of our important players extended his vacation in China and was late to the season. We dealt with this problem by resorting to using younger players on our roster.
Basketball being a collaborative sport I have to work as a team with every single member of the club. I found the working relationship of this club to be extremely good as every single player considered to be friends with one another, and even after having quit the club I still consider my old teammates to be my friends and I continue to maintain contact with them. However, of course, like in any team conflict always arose, yet when it did these conflicts were usually laughed of or simply disregarded and left alone to cool down thus solving the majority of our conflicts.
The most difficult part about committing to this activity was not only the time constraints that were put upon me due to being in 12th grade but also my ever decreasing motivation and satisfaction from playing basketball. Over the past couple months, I had done everything to improve my enjoyment of the game, my coach even decreased the amounts of practices I had to attend. However, after long consideration with my parents, I decided to quit the club.
Basketball has impacted my life in a great way, it has allowed me to develop my physique and improve my people skills. Furthermore, it has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people from around the world, people who I still know and talk to, to this day for which I am very thankful for.
Throughout the short duration of this basketball season for me, I was able to even further develop my people skills and my fitness, while at the same time improving my German skills. Nevertheless, I failed to improve my shooting, which I believe is a big factor in me leaving basketball and despite me being aware that improvement takes time I chose to end my career as I chose to pursue rugby.
