Polish school has never been an activity I especially enjoyed, however, due to my long term excursion from my country I have lost much of my previous polish language skills. I take lessons through Skype a online social networking platform that allows for the face-to-face communication that necessary for appropriate learning. The purpose of this is to improve my communicative ability with my peers in Poland so that once I return to my motherland I will be able to survive.
In polish I find myself to be very good at the spoken language and relatively good at polish history. However, due to my lack of practice with writing polish I writing skills are very bad. Furthermore, due to my natural way of speaking I am unable to conjugate words like they are taught in school rather instead I just speak it. Thus my goal for this year with the polish school is to improve my ability to write in polish.
My inability to write in polish properly proves to be a huge challenge for me. I have been attempting to improve my writing skill in case it turns out I might be moving back to Poland to study. However, polish being one of the harder languages to learn in the world makes it very hard to learn proper writing skills with only an approximate hour to do so every week.
my role in this activity is to be an attentive student so that I can learn as much as possible during the limited time I have with my teacher. What allows me to execute this is always being prepared for lessons. In many cases, this is very hard to do due to the heavy workload that is put onto us from school already. In order to prevent these complications to take effect on my ability and opportunity to learn I attempt to complete all my work on time so that nothing piles up for the weekend, however unfortunately sometimes this is impossible to do in which case my polish teacher is understanding.
The most difficult part of this activity is yet again time commitment. Spending time on a weekend doing polish school instead of studying for school on Monday is a big burden even though the lessons only take one hour the preparation time in some cases is much longer. In order to manage with these this difficulty, I attempt to balance my workload out more in order to still have time for social events and all my extracurricular activities.
Polish school has given me increased confidence in the way I handle myself with the polish language. Especially since polish people are very picky about the way people speak and write this has given me extra confidence when I am around my polish peers on vacation or when they visit me in Frankfurt.
I have developed my writing skills tremendously throughout the last couple months of polish school. I have started to write more complex sentences and I am not longer scared of performing a grammar mistake in my writing.
